Copyright levies
Under Czech law, a copyright levy applies to blank storage media. For promotional USB drives with preloaded company data and a lock preventing further changes, this levy usually does not apply.
Blank drives
The levy is calculated according to storage capacity and applies to drives supplied without preloaded data.
Preloaded data
If the drive contains company data and is locked against further changes, the levy is not charged.
Quote adjustment
If the levy applies to your order, we will adjust the price first and send it to you for approval.
Copyright levies are paid to the collecting societies OSA and Intergram for blank storage media. In practice, this mainly applies to USB flash drives and other media that the customer receives without any preloaded content.
For USB flash drives, the levy is calculated by capacity. The basic rate is CZK 1.50 per 1 GB. For example, for 100 pcs of 16GB USB flash drives, the total copyright levy is CZK 2,400 excluding VAT (100 pcs × 16 GB × CZK 1.50).
Prices for USB drives in our catalogue are listed without the copyright levy, because promotional orders usually include preloaded company data and a lock preventing further changes. In such cases, the USB drives are exempt from the copyright levy.
If you order blank USB drives or other goods subject to the copyright levy and the levy is not included in the price, we will contact you with an adjusted quotation. We will start processing the order only after you approve it.
The simplest option for promotional USB drives
If the USB drives are intended as promotional media, we recommend supplying a company presentation, catalogue, price list or other content for preloading. The drive can then be locked against further changes and the copyright levy is usually not charged.
